About
History
SoCal Science Writing was co-founded by Amber Dance, Kate Gammon, Linda Marsa and Casey Rentz. It all started with a symposium in May of 2018, held at UCLA's Geffen Hall and funded by a Peggy Girshman grant from the National Association of Science Writers. More than 100 science writers attended. The most often over heard phrase was, "Oh! I didn't know you lived here!"
Since then, SoCal Science Writing has continued to organize a variety of events, in-person and virtual, so that science writers can enjoy networking and professional development.
Who we are
SoCal Science Writing welcomes science, medical and environment communicators of any level, from students and those just exploring the field to experienced or retired folks. Members must at least have a genuine interest in science writing and a connection to the SoCal area.
